Antimicrobial activity of a biosurfactant produced by Bacillus licheniformis strain M104 grown on whey BABT
Gomaa,Eman Zakaria.
The aim of the present study was to investigate the antimicrobial effect of the lipopeptide biosurfactants produced by Bacillus licheniformis strain M104 grown on whey. The biosurfactant was investigated for potential antimicrobial activity by using the disc-diffusion method against different Gram-positive bacteria {B subtilis, B. thuringiensis (two strains), B. cereus, Staphylococcus aureus (two strains) and Listeria monocytogenes)}, Gram-negative bacteria {(Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli (two strains), Salmonella typhimurium, Proteous vulgaris and Klebsiella pneumoniae) and a yeast (Candida albicans)}. The biosurfactant showed profoundly distinct antibacterial activity toward tested bacteria and displayed an antifungal activity against the...

Comparative study on production of α-Amylase from Bacillus licheniformis strains BJM
Divakaran,Dibu; Chandran,Aswathi; Pratap Chandran,R.
Alpha amylase (α-1, 4-glucan-glucanhydrolase, EC 3.2.1.1), an extracellular enzyme, degrades α, 1-4 glucosidic linkages of starch and related substrates in an endo-fashion producing oligosaccharides including maltose, glucose and alpha limit dextrin (7). The present study deals with the production and comparative study of production of α-amylase from two strains of Bacillus licheniformis, MTCC 2617 and 2618, by using four different substrates, starch, rice, wheat and ragi powder as carbon source by submerged fermentation. The effect of varying pH and incubation temperature, activator, inhibitor, and substrate concentration was investigated on the activity of α-amylase produced by MTCC strain 2618. The results shows that the production of the α-amylase by...

Sangeetha,R.; Geetha,A.; Arulpandi,I..
This study was aimed at producing protease and lipase simultaneously on a common medium by Bacillus licheniformis VSG1, which was isolated from a tannery effluent. The effect of media composition with respect to protein source, lipid source and emulsifier on the production of protease and lipase was analysed. Both those enzymes were produced under optimized conditions like pH, temperature and incubation time. The enzyme mixture comprising of both protease and lipase was purified by ammonium sulphate precipitation, dialysis and gel filtration chromatography to obtain 20-fold pure enzymes. The purified enzyme mixture was characterized to determine the optimum pH and temperature of protease and lipase, the response of the enzymes to inhibitors, additives and...

DEGRADACIÓN DEL ALDRÍN POR Bacillus licheniformis, AISLADO DEL AGUA Y SEDIMENTO DE LA CIENAGA GRANDE DE SANTA MARTA, COLOMBIA Acta biol.Colomb.

Isolation and Identification of Novel IndigenousBacterial Strain as a Low Cost Pectinase Source BABT
Bibi,Nowshad; Ali,Sikander; Tabassum,Romana.
ABSTRACT The present study was concerned with the searching of novel bacterial cultures from different samples for the lab scale production of pectinase. Keeping in view the increasing demand of pectinase specially in Faisalabad, an industrial city of Pakistan, isolation of new hyper producer bacterial strains locally is an easy and cheap way of getting the desirable products at low cost. Therefore, isolation of new strains for industrial enzyme production has been and will be remained a part of research every time. This method alone can also provide raw material for further research such as enzyme engineering or molecular directed evolution. For the identification of hyper producer strain colony PCR was done for 16S rRNA analysis. Reason to use the 16S...

Mechanism of bactericidal activity of Silver Nitrate - a concentration dependent bi-functional molecule BJM
Pandian,Sureshbabu Ram Kumar; Deepak,Venkataraman; Kalishwaralal,Kalimuthu; Viswanathan,Pushpa; Gurunathan,Sangiliyandi.
Silver nitrate imparts different functions on bacteria depending upon its concentration. At lower concentration it induced synthesis of nanoparticles, whereas at higher concentrations it induced cell death. Bacillus licheniformis was used as model system. The MIC was 5 mM, and it induced catalase production, apoptotic body formation and DNA fragmentation.

การใช้เซลล์แขวนลอยและสารสกัดหยาบของแบคทีเรีย Bacillus licheniformis BFP011 ในการควบคุมโรคแอนแทรคโนสบนผลพริก Thai Agricultural
Pattamawan Maneesuwan; Pisan Sirithorn.
The five concentrations of cell suspension of Bacillus licheniformis BFP011 each applied to reduce the disease symptom caused by Colletotrichum capsici using the detached fruit technique with Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The statistical analysis indicated that inoculation of cell suspension prior to inoculation of C. capsici gave more disease severity reduction than inoculation of C. capsici prior to inoculation of cell suspension. The optimal concentration that reduced disease severity; without adverse effect was at 1x104-1x105 cfu/ml prior to inoculation of C. capsici for 24 hours as disease severity was reduced by 35.8% and 34.8%, respectively. The cell suspension at the concentrations between 1x106 to 1x108 cfu/ml induced fruit rot to 10-50%....

ผลของแบคทีเรีย Bacillus licheniformis BFP011 ในการยับยั้งเชื้อรา Colletotrichum capsici สาเหตุโรคแอนแทรคโนสของพริก Thai Agricultural
Pattamawan Maneesuwan; Pisan Sirithorn.
Capability of 11 isolates of Bacillus spp. previously reported as antagonistic against some plant pathogens was tested. This is to inhibit the growth of four isolates of Colletotrichum capsici isolated from stalk, leaf, fruit and 158 ci/KU, by employing Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 11 treatments with 4 replications. The results showed that B. licheniformis BFP011 exhibited the most promising inhibition. Similarly, the evaporated crude extract produced by B. licheniformis BFP011 was able to inhibit greatly growth of C. capsici. When mycelium and spores of C. capsici were immersed in cell suspension at 1x108 cfu/ml and the evaporated crude extract at 1,000 mg/ml of B. licheniformis BFP011 for 24 hours. It is obvious that abnormal hypha...
